How Expiration Dates Work

Statewide states (CA, TX, FL, WA, OR, etc.): Your card expires exactly 2–3 years from the issue date depending on state. See the validity column in the state lookup.

County-mandate states (KY, TN): Validity varies by county. Fayette County KY = 3 years. Franklin County KY = 2 years. Always verify with the issuing health department.

When to start renewal: We recommend starting the renewal process 60 days before expiration — enough time to schedule an in-person appointment if needed or complete an online course without rushing.

Expired cards: An expired card has the same compliance status as no card during an inspection. There is no grace period for an expired card — renewal should happen before the expiration date.
